Rory Mathews Leads Final 11

Nivel 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Rory Mathews has pole position for Day 3.
Rory Mathews has pole position for Day 3.

After ten levels, we've whittled our starting field of 2,100 down to just 11. A total of 168 runners entered Day 2, and Scotland's Rory Mathews bagged up 898,000 to take a small chip lead at the end. Hot on Mathews' heels are fellow top-three stacks Denis Gnidash (815,000) and Norbert Szecsi (738,000).

Mathews held a solid stack for most of the day, and his biggest pot came late, when he eliminated Sergey Tikhonov in a four-bet pot with jacks. Mathews nearly doubled his stack in that hand, and he continued chipping up in small and medium pots until the end of the day.

Action started fast and furious today, as roughly half of the starting field was eliminated by the first break. We lost notables Isaac Baron and Tony Dunst early on, and Matt Matros, who entered the day as chipleader, wasn't far behind when he busted 51st. The last big name to fall was David Chiu, who bowed out in 30th.

Action resumes tomorrow at 1 p.m. right back here in the Amazon Room, so don't forget to tune in for the conclusion of this tournament and the crowning of a bracelet winner.

Chris DeMaci opened for a raise from the cutoff, and action folded to Yuri Dzivielevski in the big blind. He leaned back in his seat, hands in his hoody pocket.

"All in," he said. DeMaci called.

DeMaci: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Dzivielevski: {k-Spades}{7-Diamonds}

The flop came {j-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, giving Dzivielevski little besides backdoor possibilities. A {9-Clubs} eliminated those, and the river was the {q-Spades}.

Jeffrey Forrest Eliminated in 13th Place ($15,762)

Nivel 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Jeffrey Forrest was crippled in a hand against Denis Gnidash. Forrest opened the preflop action with a raise to 24,000, and Gnidash three-bet to 58,000. After thinking for a minute, Forrest re-raised all in, and Gnidash called immediately.

Gnidash: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Forrest: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{q-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, and Gnidash's kings held up. After the hand, Forrest had only 65,000 in front of him, slightly more than five big blinds.

A few hands later, he got the last of his chips in the middle with {a-}{j-} against Bryce Landier's {a-}{10-}, and Landier spiked a {10-} on the turn, eliminating Forrest in 13th place. He earns $15,762 for his efforts.

Rachel Kranz opened for 27,000 in the cutoff, and Dana Buck called on the button. Both blinds folded, and we saw the flop heads up.

Kranz checked the {q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop, and Buck shoved. Kranz called immediately.

Kranz: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Buck: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Kranz had walked into Buck's trap, and she needed help or she was done. The turn was a {10-Hearts}, giving her nothing. A {7-Clubs} fell on the river, and the last woman remaining in the field was eliminated.

Landier Doubles Through Bennett

Nivel 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Jonathan Bennett raised to 30,000 preflop, and Bryce Landier called. The flop fell {2-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, and Bennett bet 30,000 again. Landier made the call, and the dealer turned the {q-Hearts}. Bennett bet out again, this time for 45,000. Landier shoved all in for 155,000, and Bennett went into the tank. After a couple minutes, he called, showing {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for pair of tens and an inside straight draw. Landier tabled {q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for top pair and a flush draw. The river was a {k-}, giving the pot to Landier, and he doubled up to 430,000 in chips.
