Elias Doubles Through Volpe

Darren Elias opened with a raise from the cutoff and Paul Volpe made it 40,000 to go from the button. Action came back around to Elias and he four-bet shoved all in for his last 97,000. Volpe called and Elias instantly stood pat. Volpe then went into the tank, pondering his action. Over a minute passed.
"I really don't know what to do," said Volpe.
After a little more thought, Volpe came to the decision to draw one. Elias fanned 
and Volpe showed 
. Volpe then reached out for his discarded card and flipped it over, revealing the 
and showing that he correctly broke a ten-nine.
Volpe squeezed out his new card but quickly saw that it was paint. He flashed the 
and Elias was awarded the double up. He's now sitting around 235,000 while Volpe has fallen to 133,000.

Mercier and Wright Butt Heads

Jason Mercier raised to 12,000 from under the gun, Larry Wright three-bet to either 27,000 or 32,000 from the big blind, and Mercier called. Both players stood pat, Wright led out for 21,500, and Mercier raised to 62,000.
Wright asked the dealer to pull the bets in.
"Doesn't look so big now, Jason," Wright told the two-time WSOP bracelet winner.
"That's what she said," John Monnette interjected.
Wright eventually folded, revealing a , and begged Mercier to show his hand. Mercier shook his head no and slid his cards into the muck.

No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball Strategy with Bracelet Winner Larry Wright

Larry Wright is no stranger to the late stages of no-limit 2-7 lowball tournaments. In 2012 he took down the $1,500 No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball event, defeating 284 players including a stacked final table with Brandon Cantu, Andrew Lichtenberger, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and Erick Lindgren.
Last year, PokerNews had a chance to chat with Wright to discuss a few concepts of the game. Check out some of his advice about bluffing, good drawing hands, calculating odds, and more.
What is an example of a good drawing hand?
When I am drawing, I want a seven and a deuce in my hand, and I like to know which cards I am throwing away. If I have a pair of sevens or a pair of deuces, then I know I am drawing real live. So the seven-deuce in my hand is very important, but probably more important than that is position. You can raise on the button with a much bigger hand and wait and see what the small and big blind do. That’s how I’ve been playing [in Event #43]; playing position, position, position.
Does your starting range of hands change as you get closer to the button?
It does change, but it depends how many chips you have. If you have a lot of chips, then my range opens wide. I will reraise with some pairs in my hand if I have a pair of fours, deuces, or sevens in my hand.
Is there any fundamental strategy in this game or is it more luck of the draw?
I’m old school. I saw it all day long, players who raise under the gun, draw one card, and bet. Players tend to play as if they are playing no-limit poker. This game is important to play in position. The button is the most powerful weapon. There is no knowledge other than what you have in your hand and a player’s tendencies. Playing someone out of position is very hard on a drawing hand. On a pat hand it doesn’t really matter where you play from though.
What is one of the biggest mistakes you see opponents make in this game?
Over-betting with a jack-low. I also see a lot of players drawing with a possibility of making a straight with their hand. They tend to draw and catch the straight. I see that a lot, actually.

Mercier Doubles Into Chip Lead

Picking up with the action at the draw, Ashton Griffin picked up one new card and Jason Mercier opted for two. Griffin fired out a bet of 75,000 and Mercier announced a raise all in. Griffin quickly called and flashed an eighty-six, but it was no match for Mercier's . Mercier shipped the massive pot and now sits on the chip lead with around 510,000 in chips.

Monnette Doubles

John Monettte moved all in from early position for his last 75,500. Action folded around to Ashton Griffin in the big blind and he announced a call. Griffin stood pat and Monnette quickly announced that he was pat as well.

Greg Mueller shipped all in from the button for his last 63,000 and John Monnette called from the small blind. Rep Porter three-bet all in over the top from the big blind and Monnette let his hand go. Porter stood pat at the draw and Mueller opted to take two, breaking what he said was a ten-nine.

He squeezed the second. Unfortunately for Mueller, this one was not as good. He rolled over the

While Mueller was exiting, Joe Cassidy busted on the other table.
